A Word From the Principal

Are you looking after yourself? This week, staff attended a number of webinars about mental health and wellbeing during not just lockdown but at all times. One of the things discussed was that if we don't look after ourselves it becomes difficult to look after others.

What do you do to look after yourself? I take time out to read, garden and knit. I have also walked everyday this week. I know it is difficult if you have young children but maybe take them to the park and then just sit, read for a while when you have put the children to bed and just chill out and watch a little bit of TV. Don't try to be a Superhero during this time, you cannot be everything to everyone if you don't look after yourself.

If you need someone to talk to don't forget that Nat from the Family Wellbeing Hub is available. She can be contacted through our remote learning site.

Stay safe Everyone,

Kerryn Riley and the KHPS staff.

Our SWPBS focus

RESPECT
Karingal Heights PS will be focusing on RESPECT as a value for School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support.

Please read this article to find out more.

Why are we focusing of respect?

All children have to make many minor and major choices throughout the day. They learn to handle them in two ways; a respectful way or a disrespectful way.

If we speak respectfully, and treat others respectfully, then we get that respect back.

The school records different types of incidents and disrespect is one that is happening a lot.

There are students who are disrespectful to:
* Their peers.
* Their teachers.
* The environment.
* Property.
And much more.

We want to acknowledge those children who display respect with their actions.

100 Days of School

Recently our Prep children celebrated 100 days of school. They all made a hat to wear and spent the day completed activities about 100. Congratulations. Take a look at our gallery for some lovely photos.

Camp Medical Forms

Please remember to return your camp medical forms to school. If you are picking up a work pack next week, that would be a good time to drop your form into the office if you have not yet done so.

Work packs

Work packs for grades 1  - 6 will be available from the office after 8:30am.

Book Week Parade

Book Week is almost here and we love to dress up and have a parade. This year's online Book Week Dress Up Parade will be on Friday 27th August so get your costumes ready. This year's theme is 'Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds'.

Fun things to do at home with your children

This popped up on a Facebook feed. Some of the things look quite fun. Might be worth investigating, especially when you need a break from home schooling.

Get Active

Looking for ways to get your child active during lockdown? Then this might help. When children participate in regular physical activity, it boosts their physical and mental health and improves academic performance.

Physical activity throughout the day also improves concentration, and the ability to retain information and solve problems.

There are many benefits to being active and getting your move on, but a lot of children aren’t moving enough, particularly while learning from home.

15 minutes 4 times a day is all it takes.

To help support your children to stay active while learning from home, families can access a range of free COVIDSafe ideas to stay active and games through Get Active Victoria.

Families should remember that whatever gets children moving, gets them active.
