Book Week Celebrations 2026

We had a wonderful day celebrating Book Week on Thursday 27th of August!  This year's theme "Symphony of Stories," was a wonderful way to celebrate the joy of reading and the many ways books can bring us together.

The day began with our much anticipated Book Week Parade, with family and friends joining us to watch our students proudly show off their fantastic costumes.  We saw an amazing range of characters from favourite books, with students and staff getting into the spirit of the day.

Following the parade, students visited different classrooms around the school and took part in a range of fun activities based on shortlisted Book Week books.  Each classroom had a different story and activity to explore, giving students the opportunity to experience a range of new books while spending time with students from other classes.

  • Mrs D (P/1D) - shared The Colours of Home, a beautiful story of a young boy who moves to a new country and finds that, although his new home look and feels very different, he can still carry the colours, memories and experiences of his old home.  Students then bought the story to life through an engaging Amplify music activity, using music and sound to explore its themes and emotions.
  • Miss W (1/2W) - read My Nonno Loves, a heartwarming celebration of the special bond between a child and their Nonno.  Students then created their own "Things I Love" jars, filled them with the people, places and thing that are special to them.
  • Miss Farley (3F) - introduced students to Frogs are Our Friends, a fun and informative story that highlights the important role frogs play in our environment.  Their activity was a day and night split pin wheel, allowing students to create a moving representation of what frogs may do during the day and night.
  • Miss Smith (4/5S) - read Derek, a story about a fish who is looking for friendship and connection.  Students then got creative by making their own fish using balloons filled with sand.  Each fish was unique, just like the characters and personalities we find in our favourite books!
  • Mr Hurford (5/6H)- shared Dear Broccoli, a humorous story about a child's relationship with broccoli and the familiar idea of not wanting to eat certain vegetables.  The story encourages children to look at vegetables in a different way and have fun with the idea of trying new things.  Inspired by the book, students became authors themselves and wrote their own letters to a fruit or vegetable.  There were plenty of creative, funny, and persuasive messages written to some very surprised fruits and vegetables!
It was lovely to see our students sharing their favourite stories, discovering new books, and embracing each activity.  The laughter and creativity throughout the day truly captured the magic of Book Week.

Together, all of these moments created a Book Week celebration that was truly our own Symphony of Stories!

Bike Education Program Reminder!

A reminder that our Bike Education Program goes for 2 more weeks.

The program provides students with the opportunity to develop their bike riding skills, build confidence and learn about safe riding practices in a fun and supportive environment.

Program dates:

To help students get the most out of the program, please send your child with their own bike if they have one available. Bikes should be in safe working order and clearly named.

Our Prep students will also be joining in the fun! Their sessions will focus on developing confidence, balance and coordination. We promote them all to use bikes, however, if they do not own one, they may bring a balance bike or scooter to school.

We look forward to seeing our students enjoying the program, building their skills and confidence, and developing a lifelong love of being active! ?

Mrs. Sargood Incursion P-2

On Friday 21st August our Prep-2 students had a wonderful visit from Mrs Sargood from the National Trust, as part of the Then and Now: Past in Your Class program.

Mrs Sargood arrived as a teacher from 1870s Melbourne, giving our students the chance to discover what life was like for children at school in the past.  Through storytelling, questions and a range of historical activities, she helped our students understand and appreciate the differences and similarities between life today and life many years ago.

The students were transported back to an era where children "should be seen and not heard" and experienced the many rules and formalities of life in the 1800s.  They were also given the chance to see how challenging and time consuming writing with a nib and ink was.  Students gained an idea of what it was like to go to school in the 1800s with an emphasis on school being 'No Fun'!  Times have definitely changed!

After recess, our 3F students joined P/1D and 1/2W to enjoy a range of olden-day games.  Students rotated through different activities, including Hopscotch, Giant Dominos, Skipping, Hooky, Corn throw, Battle Blocks, Throwing Cans, Bowling, Marbles, and Quoits.

It was fantastic to see the students enjoying these simple games together and discovering that children in the past had plenty of fun without the technology and toys we have today.

Junior Rangers at the Briars

On the 26th of September, our Koori students enjoyed a fantastic excursion to The Briars as part of the Junior Rangers Program.  It was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with Country, learn about the local environment and develop their knowledge of caring for our natural surroundings.

Students learned the traditional names for native animals, including kangaroos and emus, and explored the meaning behind the colours and symbols on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.  They also learnt an Indigenous song, participated in traditional games, and finished the day with some dancing.

Lightning Premiership Basketball 2026

Last week our Grade 5 and 6 students hit the basketball courts for the Basketball Lightning Premiership, with both our boys' and girls' teams proudly representing our school.

Our Boys' team competed in Division 2, finishing the day with 2 wins and 1 draw, placing them equal third overall in the competition.  They worked hard in every game and showed plenty of teamwork and determination.  They supported each other on the court, kept their heads up and continued to give their best, even when the games were challenging.

Our Grils' team also had a fantastic day, securing 1 win and 1 draw across their 11 games.  They showed great enthusiasm throughout the competition and continued to encourage and support each other.  It was wonderful to see them developing their skills, working together as a team and enjoying the opportunity to compete against other schools.

Most importantly, both teams displayed great sportsmanship, determination and resilience throughout the day.  There were plenty of tough games, but our students continued to work hard, encourage each other and never gave up.

A huge congratulations to all of our basketballers, both teams should be very proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school, never giving up and continuing to work hard right through to the final siren!

Father's Day Breakfast 2026

On Friday morning we were thrilled to welcome our wonderful dads, grandads, and special friends to our Father's Day breakfast.

It was a lovely morning filled with smiles, laughter, and plenty of happy conversations as students spent some special time with their loved ones.  It was a great way to celebrate the special men in our students' lives, with everyone enjoying delicious bacon and egg rolls together.

Our Parents Association also helped make Father’s Day special for our students by holding a Father's Day Stall, giving students the opportunity to choose a special gift for their dads, grandads or special friends.

It was fantastic to see so many of our dads and special males join us.  These moments are always a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate the important people who support, encourage, and care for our students.

We hope you enjoyed your bacon and egg rolls and, most importantly, the special time spent with your children.  Happy Father's Day!

SWPBS Focus: Being Safe

Over the next two weeks, our SWPBS focus is Being Safe. We will focus on the expected behaviour: We report problems we can’t solve to a staff member.

We are helping students understand that being Safe means knowing when they need to ask an adult for help. Students are encouraged to try to solve small problems themselves using strategies they have learned, but if a problem is too big, unsafe, or they can’t solve it, they should report it to a trusted staff member.

We will be practising how to calmly explain what has happened, who is involved and what help they need. This helps everyone feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
