ANZAC Day Ceremony - Honoring our Heros 2026

Last Friday morning the 24th of April, our senior school students led an ANZAC Day ceremony at the front of our school.  With pride and respect, they paid tribute to the brave men and women who served and sacrificed our country.

Students shared the well known poem 'In Flanders Fields', honouring the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served our country.  The Ode was read with great respect, followed by the raising of the flags.  As a mark of remembrance, a wreath was laid in front of the flag poles.  The ceremony concluded with the playing of the Last Post, followed by a minute of silence.

In preparation for the day, classes across the school explored the significance of ANZAC Day.  Students listened to stories, watched videos, completed a range of ANZAC crafts, and participated in discussions about the meaning behind this important event.  Students in 4/5S also made poppies, which were added to the ANZAC display in the corridor.

In art, students across the school also explored ANZAC themes.  The junior students worked together to colour collaborative ANZAC murals, while the senior students created ANZAC inspired artwork using pastels on black paper, producing thoughtful pieces.

Thank you to our senior school students for leading this special ceremony.

Events this term
Keep an eye on the important dates in the events calendar this term.

We’re working hard to make our school a calm, caring and exciting place for everyone to learn and grow! One of the ways we’re doing this is by building strong, consistent routines across the school so that every student knows what to do and feels confident each day.

Rather than trying to learn everything at once, we’re focusing on a few key routines first, practising them until we can do them really well before moving on to the next ones.

Right now, our focus is on:

  • Line-up routines – students are learning to line up in alphabetical order, stand with calm bodies, staying quiet, and be ready to learn.
  • Moving around the school – when travelling in groups, students practise walking in single file, keeping noise level low, using safe body positions, and knowing what to do when they arrive at their destination.

As the year continues, we’ll also be building skills in entry and exit routines, smooth transitions between activities, taking care of equipment, and much more.

By practising these routines together, we’re helping every student feel safe, settled and ready to shine!

Attendance and Achievement

Victorian data shows a strong link between attendance and academic success.

Students with attendance below 90% are at higher risk of:

  • Falling behind in literacy and numeracy
  • Feeling disconnected from peers
  • Experiencing reduced confidence

Missing one day per week (80% attendance) equals nearly two months of school lost across the year.

If your child is genuinely unwell, they should stay home. However, if it’s just a tricky morning, encouragement and reassurance can make all the difference.

Family Tip:
Talk positively about school and learning at home. Children often reflect the attitudes they hear.

If your child is absent for any reason, please notify us on the day by calling 9789 3288.

If attendance is becoming difficult, please reach out so we can work together on a plan.

SWPBS Focus: Respect & Resilience – Following Instructions

Over the next fortnight, our SWPBS focus is on demonstrating Respect and Resilience by following instructions. At school, this means listening carefully to teachers and classroom assistants, and responding positively when directions are given.

Students are encouraged to show respect by giving their attention, using positive body language, and following instructions the first time they are asked. Building resilience is also an important part of this focus, as it involves accepting and following rules even when tasks feel challenging or not preferred.

By strengthening these skills, we support a calm, safe, and productive learning environment for everyone. Families can support this at home by encouraging children to listen, follow directions, and persevere with tasks.

We look forward to celebrating students who demonstrate these positive behaviours throughout the fortnight.

Free resources for families of adolescents aged 10 to 14 years.

The Department of Education has launched an Easing into adolescence webpage for families of students aged 10 to 14 (Grade 5 to Year 8).

The webpage has information and strategies you can use to help ease your child into adolescence and secondary school. These include:

  • a guide to emotion coaching. Staff from The University of Melbourne’s Tuning in to Teens Kids program developed the guidance.
  • how to support your adolescent with their studies and more generally. Parenting expert and clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller helped develop this resource.

Subtitles for videos by The University of Melbourne on the webpage are available in 10 languages. You can select your preferred language on the translations page.

For questions about these resources, contact the Strategic Partnerships, Transitions and Student Voice team. You can email them at Secondary.School.Transition@education.vic.gov.au.
