Brainstorm Productions 2026

On Friday the 13th of February we were excited to welcome Brainstorm Productions to our school for their engaging live performance The Protectors.  This interactive show delivered important messages about bullying prevention, online safety, social skills, and emotion regulation.

The performance followed the story of Leo and Serena, who are struggling to get along with their friends.  Leo is thoughtful and sensitive, but struggles to manage his feeling and standing up for himself.  Serena teases and bullies other students at school and online.

When Leo and Serena enter Protector School they discover that empathy, assertiveness and resilience are their super powers.

Through real life scenarios, students learnt practical strategies for standing up to bullying, seeking help and protecting themselves and others at school and online.

School Notice Board - 20th February 2026

Whole school event

We warmly invite all families, both new and returning, to join us for our Meet, Greet & Eat afternoon on Wednesday 4th March, from 3:30pm - 4:30pm.

This relaxed and friendly gathering is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other families in our school community. Whether you’re new to the school or have been here for years, it’s the perfect chance to put names to faces, meet new people and strengthen the connections that make our school such a welcoming place. (And don’t worry - name stickers will be provided for everyone!)

To help us with catering, please complete the form on the school website or follow the QR code link included in the Meet, Greet & Eat article in this newsletter.

We would love to see every family there for an afternoon of connection, conversation and community.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the full volunteer induction sessoins for this year. The induction sessions covered:
* Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) induction checklist.
* Child Safety - Our roles and responsibilities when volunteering in a school.

OH&S checklists must be signed every year by volunteers. If you are volunteering in the school this year and have not completed an OH&S checklist induction, please email Jeremy Bodley to organise this. Jeremy.Bodley@education.vic.gov.au

The checklist induction only takes a few minutes and can be done next time you sign in.

The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing will be held in three weeks time, starting 11th March. Students will sit 4 different assessements throughout the testing period.

Please do your best to ensure your child is present, especially on the scheduled testing days.

The current schedule is:
Wednesday 11th March - Writing test
Thursday 12th March - Reading and Conventions of Language tests
Tuesday 17th March - Numeracy

Days between tests and the rest of the second week will be used to catch any child up who may have been absent.

Swimming Carnival

On Friday 6th March, we will be heading to Crib Point Swimming Pool for our annual School Swimming Carnival. This is a whole-school event for students from Prep to Grade 6, focused on building school spirit, encouraging participation, and most importantly, having fun!

The carnival is now only two weeks away, so it’s time to get house colours and bathers ready! Traditionally, students are encouraged to wear something that represents their house colour. If your child is unsure which house they belong to, their teacher will remind them next week.

Our Swimming Carnival is all about participation and enjoyment. While ribbons will be awarded on the day, the emphasis is not on serious competition. Younger students will be well supported in the pool, with those who require assistance accompanied by senior students throughout their events. The main goal of the day is for everyone to feel safe, included, and to enjoy the experience.

The bus will depart Karingal Heights at approximately 9:00am and arrive at the pool around 9:45am. We will return to school by bus at 1:00pm.

We hope to see lots of parents, carers, and grandparents there to cheer on our students and help create a fantastic atmosphere!

Pancakes for Shrove Tuesday

On Tuesday the 17th of February our school enjoyed a delicious start to the day on Shrove Tuesday, thanks to the wonderful efforts of our Fundraising Committee.

Students and staff were treated to freshly made pancakes served with a variety of tasty toppings.  From classic lemon and sugar to honey and jam, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The Fundraising Committee were especially impressed with the beautiful manners shown by our students.  Polite "pleases" and "thank yous" were heard throughout the morning, and students waited paitently for their turn.  It was great to see such respectful behaviour on display.

We are very grateful to the Fundraising Committee volunteers who gave up their time to prepare, cook, and serve the pancakes.  Thank you!

Wellbeing News

Every Day Counts at Karingal Heights Primary School

At Karingal Heights Primary School, we know that regular attendance sets the foundation for strong learning, friendships and confidence.

The Victorian Department of Education advises that students attend school every day it is open. Attendance below 90% (missing one day a fortnight) is considered chronic absence — that’s around four weeks of learning lost across the year.

In the early years especially, children are building the foundations for literacy, numeracy and social skills. Being at school every day helps them feel capable and connected.

Family Tip:
Establish consistent bedtime and morning routines from the beginning of the year. A calm start makes regular attendance much easier.

If your child is absent for any reason, please notify the school on the day by calling our absence line on 9789 3288.

If attendance becomes challenging, please contact your child’s teacher or our wellbeing coordinator. We are here to support you.

Lunchtime Clubs at Karingal Heights Primary School

There’s lots happening at lunchtime this term at Karingal Heights Primary School!

We are excited to offer a range of clubs across the week to help students build friendships, develop new skills and get involved in our school community.

What’s on this term:

  • Monday: Gardening Club with Miss Smith

  • Tuesday: Choir with Mrs Freeman

  • Wednesday: Wellbeing Club with Sarah Carmody

  • Thursday: Dance/Cheer Club with Miss Farley

  • Friday: Play Leaders, run by our Student Leaders

Lunchtime clubs provide wonderful opportunities for students to explore interests, connect with others and feel a strong sense of belonging at school.

Students are welcome to join in and give something new a try — we encourage everyone to get involved!

Community News

Free resources for families of adolescents aged 10 to 14 years.

The Department of Education has launched an Easing into adolescence webpage for families of students aged 10 to 14 (Grade 5 to Year 8).

The webpage has information and strategies you can use to help ease your child into adolescence and secondary school. These include:

  • a guide to emotion coaching. Staff from The University of Melbourne’s Tuning in to Teens Kids program developed the guidance.
  • how to support your adolescent with their studies and more generally. Parenting expert and clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller helped develop this resource.

Subtitles for videos by The University of Melbourne on the webpage are available in 10 languages. You can select your preferred language on the translations page.

For questions about these resources, contact the Strategic Partnerships, Transitions and Student Voice team. You can email them at Secondary.School.Transition@education.vic.gov.au.

The community news section of the newsletter is to promote local clubs and organisations where students may go to be active or follow their interests.
