Welcome Back to a New School Year!

Welcome back to everyone in our school community!  We hope you all enjoyed a safe, relaxing and happy holiday break and are feeling refreshed and ready for an exciting year ahead.  It has been wonderful to see our classrooms buzzing again with smiles, laughter and learning.

A very special welcome goes to our newest students, our Prep children, who have officially begun their school journey with us.  Starting school is a big milestone, and our Preps have shown great courage, enthusiasm and curiosity as they settle into their new routines, classroom and friendships.  We are really proud of how well they are adjusting and look forward to watching them grow and learn throughout the year!

School Notice Board - 6th February 2026

Welcome

I would like to welcome all the new families to our fortnightly newsletter and welcome back to all the returning families.

Each fortnight we release the school newsletter. It is a great source of information for important notices, messages, upcoming events and also a way to celebrate the children and things that happen around the school.

Newsletters can be located on the school website if you wish to look any of them up.

If you wish to subscribe to the newsletter, please look for the Subscribe widget at the bottom of the website homepage.

Two sessions are being offered
After school session: Thursday 12th @ 3:30pm

Annual Parent Consent Forms

All families should have received their annual consent form packs. It is important that these are returned in a timely manner.
If you have not received this, could you please contact the office to arrange for a pack.

Annual parent consents are needed for:
* Local Excursions
* Special Treats
* Cooking Consent
* Headlice Inspection Consent.
* ICT use consent.

A one off Photography, Filming and Recording student consent may be in the pack. (This only needs to be done once or if you need to change what you are consenting to).

Swimming Carnival

On Friday 6th March, we will be heading to Crib Point Swimming Pool for the annual school swimming carnival. The event is to build school spirit and have fun. It is a whole school event from prep to grade 6.

Permission forms will be coming home shortly.

For the parents/carers who are concerned about their child's swimming ability.

For the less confident swimmers, we will have staff and older students in the pool. Some may need to be carried by the older student for the event. This has been very successful in the past.

The school only uses the shallow end of the pool, where student and staff helping are at standing height.

Please consider coming to support your child. All parents / carers / grandparents are welcome to attend the event. Only volunteers with valid Working With Children Checks are allowed to assist in the change rooms.

Celebrating our 2026 Students Leaders

At assembly this afternoon, we proudly recognised our School Captains and Leadership Team as they were presented with thier leadership badges.

School Captains Rosalee and Cian were joined by our Leadership team members Cooper, Logan and Lukas, along with our Sports Captains Ryder and Kai.  It was a special moment for our student leaders as they recieved their badges and offically stepped into their roles for the year ahead.

These students have already shown great responsibility, teamwork and pride in our school, and we know they will do a fantastic job representing Karingal Heights Primary School.

Well done to all of our leaders!  We are excited to see you shine!

Wellbeing News

KHPS Super Start Program

The first two weeks of 2026 have seen our students thrive in the KHPS Super Start Program. Focused on wellbeing, positive relationships, and clear routines, Super Start has helped students feel safe, settled, and ready to learn.

Daily Morning Circles, lessons in self-regulation and wellbeing, and activities reinforcing our values—Respectful, Responsible, Resilient, Safe—have built strong connections and consistent expectations across the school.

Students are engaged, classrooms are calm, and the foundation is set for a successful year ahead.

Starting the Year Strong with SWPBS

At KHPS, we use SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support) to create a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for all students. This year, students will continue to learn and practice our school values—Respectful, Responsible, Resilient, Safe—throughout classrooms, playgrounds, and daily routines.

SWPBS helps students make positive choices, build strong relationships, and feel confident at school—setting everyone up for a successful year ahead!

Wellbeing Tip of the Month: Practice Gratitude
Take a few minutes each day to think about or write down three things you are grateful for—big or small. It could be a sunny day, a fun moment at school, or a kind friend.

Practicing gratitude helps you feel happier, more positive, and more resilient, and it’s something the whole family can do together!

Community News

Free resources for families of adolescents aged 10 to 14 years.

The Department of Education has launched an Easing into adolescence webpage for families of students aged 10 to 14 (Grade 5 to Year 8).

The webpage has information and strategies you can use to help ease your child into adolescence and secondary school. These include:

  • a guide to emotion coaching. Staff from The University of Melbourne’s Tuning in to Teens Kids program developed the guidance.
  • how to support your adolescent with their studies and more generally. Parenting expert and clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller helped develop this resource.

Subtitles for videos by The University of Melbourne on the webpage are available in 10 languages. You can select your preferred language on the translations page.

For questions about these resources, contact the Strategic Partnerships, Transitions and Student Voice team. You can email them at Secondary.School.Transition@education.vic.gov.au.
