Harold the Giraffe and Life Education Visit Karingal Heights Primary School!

On Thursday the 5th and Friday the 6th of June, our school was excited to welcome Harold the giraffe and the Life Education team.  Students across all year levels had the opportunity to take part in engaging and informative sessions focusing on friendships, staying safe online and cyberbullying.  The specially tailored sessions included age appropriate activities, discussions, and interactive videos.

Each year level focused on a different theme:
  • Prep students explored the theme Friendship.  They learned what it means to be a good friend, how to recognise friendly behaviours, and ways to resolve small conflicts kindly and respectfully.  Harold helped the students understand the importance of kindness, including others and treating people with respect in their friendships.
  • Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 students explored The Online World, a session that helped them understand the basics of staying safe online.  They learned how to protect personal information, how to spot unsafe situations, and how to be respectful whilst online.  The students did an activity which allowed them to recognise what Apps and games are appropriate for which age group.
  • The Year 5 and 6 students focused on cyberbullying.  They learned how to recognise it, how to respond, and the importance of standing up for themselves and others online.  This session encouraged students to think about how their actions affect others online, and the power of making positive choices.  Most importantly, the group talked about what to do if they or someone they know is being bullied on the internet and the importance of speaking up and seeking help from a trusted adult.
Harold, was a big hit with the everyone, his friendly face and fun approach made learning about serious topics memorable.

An important thing for the students remember, is whether it's in the playground or online, always choose kindness and if something doesn't feel right, talk to a trusted adult.

Student Showcase

Cooking with Debbie Lesson 3

We were thrilled to welcome Debbie back to our kitchen this week for her third exciting cooking lesson with our students.  After the fun of the last two sessions, everyone was eager to see what was on the menu this time!

Students had the chance to roll up their sleeves and get baking with a super simple but incredibly tasty recipe: 3 Ingredient Coconut Macaroon Jam Drops.  Using just desiccated coconut, condensed milk, and a dollop of jam, these little treats were quick to make and full of flavour.

It was great to see our young chefs mixing, shaping, and carefully adding a spoonful of jam to each macaroon before popping them in the oven.  The delicious smell that filled the kitchen made it hard to wait for them to cool down!

Thank you Debbie for another fantastic cooking experience, the students can't wait for the next one!

Try making this quick and easy recipe at home!

SWPBS

SWPBS Focus – Weeks 9 & 10: Respect

At Karingal Heights Primary School, our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) focus for Weeks 9 and 10 is Respect.

Over the next two weeks, we’ll be guiding students to reflect on what it means to show respect in everyday situations. Our key behaviour expectations include:

  • Asking permission before touching someone else’s property

  • Treating others with kindness and respect

Respecting others means valuing their belongings, their personal space, and their feelings. Students will be reminded that even small actions—like asking before borrowing something or using polite and inclusive language—can make a big difference in creating a safe and supportive school environment.

Teachers will be reinforcing these behaviours in the classroom and playground through class discussions, role plays, and positive recognition.

Families can support this focus at home by talking with your child about ways to show respect in different situations—at school, at home, and in the community.

Let’s continue to work together to build a culture of respect across our school!

Wellbeing News

In Class by 9:00am – A Great Start to the Day

Being in the classroom by 9:00am sets students up for a calm, connected and focused school day. Late arrivals miss this important start, often feeling rushed or unsettled.

What families can do:

  • Set a consistent morning routine (wake up, breakfast, dressed, bag packed)

  • Aim to arrive at school by 8:50am

  • Create a calm goodbye routine. Say goodbye before the school bell

  • Use positive talk about school to boost motivation

  • Stick to a regular bedtime for a smoother morning

What school does:

  • Students begin each day with circle time (Berry Street Education Model)

  • Support students with a predictable, supportive start

  • Build a sense of belonging, regulation, and readiness to learn

Let’s work together to make sure students are in class by 9:00am and ready to start the day strong!
