Swimming Carnival 2025

Karingal Heights Primary School Annual Swimming Carnival- A Splashing Success!

The sun was shining, the water was sparkling, and the excitement filled the air as our students hit the pool for our annual school swimming carnival today.  From the first race to the last relay, every swimmer gave it their all, cheering on their teammates and earning points for their house.

The day featured a mix of classic and creative events.  The freestyle races saw students racing to the finish line, while the Biggest Splash competition had everyone making waves!  The Swimming with a Ball event tested students' coordination, and the Swimming with a small ball race brought plenty of laughs.

One of the highlights of the day was the much anticipated Teachers vs. Students race.  The students gave it their best shot, but once again, the teachers proved too strong, claiming victory for another year!

At the end of the day, the house points were tallied, and it was Red (Bottlebrush) House who took out top spot.  Yellow (Wattle) House followed closely in second place, and then not far behind was Blue (Bluegum) House and then Green (Banksia) House.

A huge congratulations to all the students for their efforts, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm.  A big thank you to our wonderful staff and volunteers for making the day such a success.  We can't wait to do it all again next year!

Being on Time to School Matters

Being on time for school is important! When students arrive late, it affects their learning, disrupts the class, and can make them feel anxious. While occasional lateness happens, being late often can cause bigger problems.

How Lateness Affects Learning

When students arrive late, they miss key parts of the lesson. The start of class often includes important instructions, discussions, or activities that help students understand the day’s work. Missing these moments can make it harder to keep up, leading to lower grades and frustration.

If a child is 15 minutes late every day, the lost learning time adds up quickly:

  • In a week: 75 minutes (1 hour 15 minutes) missed
  • In a month: 300 minutes (5 hours) missed
  • In a term: 900 minutes (15 hours or nearly 2 full school days) missed
  • In a year: 3,000 minutes (50 hours or over 1 full school week) missed

These small delays add up, leading to gaps in learning and making it harder for students to stay on track.

Disrupting the Classroom

A smooth class depends on routines. When a student arrives late, it distracts both the teacher and classmates. Teachers may have to stop the lesson to help late students catch up, which takes time away from everyone’s learning.

Social and Emotional Effects

Being late can also affect students' confidence. Walking into a class that has already started may feel embarrassing or stressful. Over time, this can make school feel less welcoming.

Tips for Getting to School on Time

Want to improve punctuality? Here are some simple tips:

  • Get Ready the Night Before: Pack bags, choose clothes, and finish homework before bedtime.
  • Use Alarms: Set alarms to wake up on time and avoid rushing.
  • Make a Morning Checklist: Follow a simple list for tasks like brushing teeth and eating breakfast.
  • Plan for Delays: Leave home a little earlier to avoid last-minute problems.
  • Understand the Importance: Talk about why being on time helps with learning and success.

By making punctuality a habit, students set themselves up for success in school and beyond. Let’s work together to start every day the right way—on time!
