This Week in STEM

STEM in Action: Building Box Roads and Cities!

Our students have been hard at work during STEM, using their creativity and problem solving skills to design and build amazing box cities!

Each class was given the challenge of designing and building different parts of the box city.  They carefully planned their layouts, deciding where to place roads, buildings and landscapes.  Then using boxes, cardboard and paper, they brought their ideas to life!

Through this hands on activity, students explored concepts of design, engineering, and teamwork.  They had to think about structure, stability, and how to use the materials effectively.  It was wonderful to see their imagination at work.

Supporting Positive Behaviours at Karingal Heights

At karingal Heights PS, we are committed to fostering a positive learning environment where all students feel safe, respected, and supported. That’s why we implement School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)—a framework that promotes positive behaviours and helps students develop important social and emotional skills.

Each fortnight, we highlight key behavioural expectations that align with our school values. For the next two weeks, our focus will be on:

? "We wait our turn to speak." – Encouraging students to practice patience and respect by listening actively and allowing others to share their thoughts before speaking.

? "We keep our hands and feet to ourselves." – Promoting a safe and inclusive environment by ensuring all interactions are kind and respectful.

These expectations reinforce our Respectful and Safe values, helping students build positive relationships and contribute to a supportive school community.

We encourage families to talk about these focus areas at home and reinforce their importance. Thank you for your support in helping our students develop positive behaviours that contribute to a happy and successful school experience!

Supporting Every Student: The Role of Student Support Groups (SSGs)

At Karingal Heights PS, we are committed to ensuring that every student receives the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. One of the key ways we do this is through Student Support Groups (SSGs).

SSGs are designed to provide a collaborative approach to supporting students who may require additional assistance. They bring together parents, teachers, and support staff to discuss a student’s progress, set learning goals, and develop strategies to enhance their educational experience.

Who is eligible for an SSG?

Students eligible for an SSG include those who:
✔ Have an Intellectual Disability (ID) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis
✔ Are in Out of Home Care
✔ Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
✔ Are supported under the Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP)
✔ Receive Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) funding

When Are SSGs Scheduled?

SSG meetings will be held during Weeks 6, 8, and 9 of this term. Parents and guardians will be contacted by Mrs. Freeman with their scheduled meeting time.

If you require further information please contact the Wellbeing Coordinator, Victoria Freeman, or discuss with your child's teacher.

SSGs are an essential part of ensuring that every student receives the tailored support they need to succeed. We look forward to working together to support our students in reaching their full potential!
