Science Week - Open Afternoon

National Science Week is Australia's annual celebration of science and technology held during August.  Running between the 10th - 18th of August, the week aims to encourage an interest in science.

The school theme for National Science Week in 2024 is 'Species Survival - More than just Sustainability'.  This theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival of different species in an ever changing world.

On Wednesday afternoon our classrooms were buzzing with excitement as we welcomed family and friends to KHPS's science open afternoon.  This special event gave family and friends a chance to see what our young scientists have been working on this week.

P1D made paper helicopters and then went outside to test their flight ability.

12W have been conducting several experiments such as placing a gummy bear into water for 4 days to see what would happen, placing a stick of celery into coloured water to see what changes took place and recreating a lava lamp.

34S students had to build a 3D structure using connector blocks.  After the structure was built they needed to take a photo of it and then write down instructions on how to build it.  The students then had to pull apart the structure and see if someone else could recreate it using the photo and instructions provided.

456H had to design and build a device using various materials such as marshmallows, paper, plastic and foil to demonstrate the power of the sun.  Over a period of time the students had to record the temperature and the changes that occured to the marshmallows.

Check out of gallery from the open afternoon.

To keep costs for parents to a minimum, the classroom teachers are intending to make the base clothing something most families already have. For example, it may be dark pants and a white shirt. They will accessorise from there.

Bullying No Way - National Week of Action 2024

Bullying No Way Week is being held from the 12th - 16th of August this year.  This is Australia's key bullying prevention initiative and connects schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.

The theme for 2024 is 'Everyone Belongs'.  This theme highlights the importance of inclusion and respect and reminds us that every student has a right to feel safe and valued.  It is about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.

Bullying is an issue that can affect any child.  We encourage you to have conversations at home with your child about what belonging means and ways they can promote inclusion in their everyday lives.

Together, we can ensure that every student feels safe, valued and respected at our school.  It doesn't cost anything to be kind yet bullying and being mean can cost so much!

Frankston Mayor Visits Our Senior School

On Thursday 15th of August, our Senior school students had the opportunity to meet and interact with the Mayor of Frankston, Nathan Conroy during his  visit to our school.

The Mayor spent time discussing the role of our local government and held a Q&A session where our students asked questions about everything from what the Mayor does to who fixes the pot holes in our roads (this was a discussion for another time!)

This visit was a great opportunity for our students to learn about civic responsibility and how our local government works.
