Potato Olympics

Whilst the 2024 Paris Olympics have been on, at school our 1/2 and 3/4 classes have been participating in their own Olympic fun - the Potato Olympics!  This creative and fun filled activity has brought a lot of laughter, sportsmanship and creativity to the students.
Each class designed thier own potato athlete, complete with names, uniforms and a little biography about the athlete.

Some of the featured events included:

  • Sprints
Potatoes are placed on a starting line and students used a ruller to race their potato to the finish line.  If the potato is touched with anything other than the ruler that potato is disqualified.  The potato who reaches the finish line in the shortest time wins!

  • Potato Long Jump
Students had to roll their potato down a ramp to see how far they could jump (roll) down. The potato that rolled the furtherest wins!

  • Potato Diving
Potatoes are placed on a diving board 1m above a bucket of water and are gentle pushed off.  The potato with the biggest splash wins!

  • Potato Basketball
Students could choose between 3 distances to toss thier potato into a bucket.  Each distance was worth a different amount of points.  Line 1 = 1 point, Line 2 = 2 points and Line 3 = 3 points.  If your potato lands in the bucket from the chosen line they are award those points.  The potato with the most points wins!

The competition isn't over yet!  Our potato athletes still have more events to compete in, and the final results have yet to be determined.  The excitement is building as the students look forward to the upcoming challenges that will decide the overall winning potatoes!
