Mother's Day Morning Tea 2024

This week our students have been busy baking yummy treats with their class for our special Mother's Day morning tea.  P1D made delicious cupcakes, 12W made tasty blueberry muffins and brightly decorated biscuits, 34S made sweet biscuits and 456H made their signature rocky road!

On Friday morning the 10th of May we welcomed many guests to our annual Mother's Day morning tea.  It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and seeing our mums and special people enjoying the delicious treats the students had made.

A highlight of the morning was the Mother's Day song performed by our P1D students.

The morning was a great way to show thanks to the many special people in our lives.  Wishing all the mums a very special day on Sunday!

Play Leaders 2024

On Monday 6th of May our 4/5/6H students spent the day training to become play leaders.  The aim of the PLAY (Positivity, Leadership and Activated Youth) program is to enhance the resilience and wellbeing of young people.

During this training the students learn how to run safe and fun games for the junior students to participate in during recess and lunch time.  The program also teaches the students how to support each other, take responsibility as well as develop their leadership skills.

The junior school students had a great afternoon participating in the many games the 4/5/6 students had learnt during their training.  It took a lot of organisation, communication and responsibility skills from the leaders to teach the younder students the games.  They did a wonderful job!

Mother's Day Yoga Session

I would like to thank the yoga instructor, Sarah, who ran a relaxation yoga session for Mother's Day.

I hope that we can offer something similar for the next Mother's Day.

Please avoid bringing notices directly to the office

Could all notices, permission forms, special lunche orders, etc. please be handed to the classroom teachers and not brought directly to the office? Classroom teachers send any of the notices to the office in their daily cash bag.

When notices are handed directly to the office by parents or children, there is a chance they can be misplaced or not put with the correct grade.

If notices come to the office in the class cash bag, they are easily handled with less opportunity for it to be incorrectly filed. When the classroom teacher is the one collecting the notices, they have a better understanding around which children have brought things back and who is still needing to return something.

Current Notices

Please keep an eye out for the dates on the following notices:

* Special Treat order - due Monday 13th May.
* PARC swimming program notice - Due 22nd May.

Premiers' Reading Challenge 2024

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Karingal Heights PS is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 6 September 2024.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
