Bike Safety Has Created A Hunger For Riding At KHPS

It has been clearly evident throughout the week that more and more children are interested in riding to and from school. Having the senior students participate in a bike safety program has created much of this interest, with the number of bikes being locked up in the bike enclosure growing rapidly.

We need your help to keep this trend going. Encouraging your child to ride or scooter to school, as often as possible, is one small opportunity you can take to add some active time to your child's day.

Working Bee
Next term, we will be arranging a working bee to clear out the storage area behind the sports shed. You can help create an area for your child to store their bikes and scooters in a safe, undercover space. Please look out for this in the coming weeks.

Lateness to School

We are having many families arriving to begin their day at school way after 9:00am. Our school gate opens at 8:45am and the first bell rings at 8:55am. The children should be inside, ready to begin their day at 9:00am. For the next 60 minutes there is a constant stream of children arriving to school late. If your child arrives at school 15 minutes late each day, they are missing over an hour of school a week. This quickly adds up.

It is said that one of the most stressful things for a child is to arrive late to school. Late arrival means that vital instruction for the first lessons of the day has been missed. The teacher needs to stop instruction in order to tell the late child what to do and in the meantime other children are missing out on the teacher's help. If this happens at three different times in one classroom, which it does, then the planned lesson, along with the grade's concentration is very disrupted.

If you are having difficulty getting your child to school on time please see Mrs Riley or Mr Bodley. They may be able to give you some tips.

Please read this article: "How can I get my child/teen to school?"
